'Arctostaphylos Pungens' or Pointleaf Manzanita is most common in pine forests and oak woodlands. Mature plants often reach 10 to 20 feet in diameter. With decumbent branches forming roots that may break away from the mother plant, it's these decumbent branches, in rare cases can form a basel burl at ground level. These burls range in size from 1 to 30 inches plus in diameter. This rare form of burl, displays unique grain and vibrant spectrums of color. All which make Manzanita burl a popular choice of wood among accomplished woodturners and woodcrafters. While no two pieces are alike, each piece that is crafted becomes a one of a kind, rare, artisans showpiece. Manzanita burls are a product of high elevation, severe winters and decades of chaparral fires. These conditions assure a slower growth rate, which in turn produces a more uniformed burl that are free of large voids and rocks, unlike their Southern cousins.
Our burls are trimmed and pressure washed to remove loose debris. I have eight basic sizes of both turning burls and character burls. The turning burls are round or more spherical in shape. The character burls are odd in shape and are favored by glass blowers, taxidermists and crafters for mounting bases. I also cut burl slabs for clock making as well as pen turning blanks and stoppers. Always feel free to email me with any questions or comments regarding our products. I will be happy to answer them. I look forward to your patronage.
